Last Class

Everyone in class did a good job and all the projects were interesting and informative.
After presenting our project, Carmen and I decided to work some more on the calendar. So we will meet this week to make some changes before printing.

Final drafts

After several meetings and brainstorming, we finished the calendar and the website. We also finished writing the proposal. The presentations in class helped us too.

Website and Calendar Creation

Since Carmen knows Dreamweaver, I created the interface and she created the website. I also did some changes to the calendar based on some more feedback from Carmen.

Second calendar draft

We decided to do some changes to the calendar's design based on the feedback we got from class. Carmen gave me some ideas on how the she wants the website interface to look. In case we decide to make changes before creating the website in Dreamweaver, I spent some time creating an example using Photoshop in order to see how it would turn out.

Before writing project proposal.

Carmen and I decided to focus on creating the calendar for the non=profit organization before moving on to the website. We had a meeting on a Saturday, and we discussed the interface design for the calendar and the types of pictures we need to use. Since 2007 is half over , we decided it is best to create a six- month calendar.

Interface Design Review

Analyzing and looking at the interface of a non-profit website was good practice to recognize some of the mistakes which we will avoid in creating our website for the final project. I wish we could have a clearer idea of how interface design should look in terms of the type of audience, subject, and instruction.

Video Blog

I love working in teams. Sharing ideas always encourages me to do a good job. Carmen and Darren emailed me PowerPoint slides, pictures, and two different scripts. I recorded the voice over and put the video together using imovie. I must say it was not easy since I had some technical difficulties. I loved the videos I saw in class. They were well done and some were very entertaining.

Flicker

Telling a story visually was a good activity but it was kind of hard to find the right pictures. The pictures that some of the class mates choose were very interesting and at the same time confusing. I thought we had to be as clear as possible to get our idea or story across.

A whole new mind

The reading was very informative. I liked the explanation about the right hemisphere and left hemisphere. I thought education has changed a lot here in the United States, but from what I heard in class, it seems I am wrong.
In regards to jobs moving abroad; I think this is reality whether we like it or not. The question is, what can we do about it if so many people are against the idea? People in third world countries feel grateful if they can find a job with a salary of $1000 a month. But it’s very sad how two people from two different courtiers that have the same skills are treated very differently.

Class 4

I thought the presentation was very interesting. I think it is a great idea but the recording that we heard in class could be better. Maybe we have to be in the actual place and use our imagination to try to picture what happened.
I really liked the everyday thing assignment but the due date confused me. I thought it was due Tuesday instead of Monday. After doing the assignment and listening to the presentations in class, I understood how important it is to base a design depending on the audience.

Perceived Affordance:

The purpose of the knob is adjusting the volume.
Pressing the buttons that are found on both side of the knob to change a CD track or radio station.


Actual Affordances:

1. The knob is for adjusting volume. By pressing the knob once and turning it left and right, the user will change the balance of the sound between the two speakers.

2. Pressing the buttons once changes the track or radio station. But if the user presses and holds one of the buttons, it will fast-forward or rewind the CD track that is playing.

By looking at the knob and buttons, it gives us the idea that the actions are limited to adjusting the volume and changing audio tracks respectively.

Control-display compatibility:

The knob turns left and right. When turning knob to the right it turns volume up but when turning it to the left it will do the opposite. The same thing happens when trying to change the balance of sound between the left speaker and the right speaker.

The button that is on the right side changes to the next track and the button on the left side of the knob changes back to the previous track.



Mapping problem and Transfer Effects:

From previous experience, turning off a CD player was by pressing the knob once or by turning the knob to the left until it clicks. This would clearly conflict with the new situation.
Even though there is an OFF button on the top left hand side, the users have difficulty noticing it. Therefore, they would assume from past experience with similar objects that pressing the knob turns off the CD player.

Class 3

I liked the presentation about Wiki and the idea of having a wiki for the ITEC Department. The article was difficult to understand, but the class discussion helped me understand the article more even though I would have preferred getting the same information from a readable source. I also got a good review of the content we studied in ITEC 800 and ITEC 801 by doing the concept map.

The Second Class

After this class I feel I have a better understanding of how our projects should be done. I liked all the presentations especially the one about Podcasting. But were all the project just a research about what types of web 2.0 are available today and how each one is used or is there other projects that explain about the negatives and the positives of each type in regards to its uses in instruction?

First day of class

The class was very interesting. I was lost at first because I didn't really have a clear idea of what Web 2.0 is. After listening to the class discussion and the examples, I felt I had a better understanding about the subject, but I still need to read more about it. I am very excited about this course, especially working with a non-profit organization. And I am sure we will learn a lot by having to work in groups on a certain project.
